Health Center's Parking at Risk

Family First Health Family First Health has been notified that when York's City Hall moves, it will lose the 33 parking spaces currently reserved for patients of the health center. The situation has Jenny Englerth, executive director of the health center, worried about patients' access to medical and dental services, especially since no viable alternatives have been offered since the health center was notified last month that the spaces they have reserved since 2005 will no longer be available, effective March 1st. The health center is leading a petition drive to retain the parking.

Tri-State Receives Grant Award


Tri-State Community Health Center , a Maryland-based health center with a site in Pennsylvania, was awarded $66,214 by the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission for activities to reduce infant mortality. Congratulations to CEO Susan Walter and her team!

Congratulations to Pennsylvania's Newest FQHC Look-Alike!

Susquehanna Community Health and Dental Clinic, Inc. received official notification this week that it has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for FQHC Look-Alike designation, retroactive to December 6, 2011. Congratulations to CEO Ellen Krajewski and her team. PACHC knows the work that went into achieving this milestone and we wish the health center many years of success in providing access to affordable, high quality care to needy individuals in the Williamsport area. Welcome to the "community of Community Health Centers!"

Lancaster Health Center Honors Memory of One of Its Own


SouthEast Lancaster Health Services has established The Mirna Diabetes Fund to honor Mirna Guzman, a long-time employee and significant contributor to the success of the diabetes program at the health center. The fund will be used to provide resources to patients with diabetes who cannot afford them. Mirna was a beloved, compassionate and beautiful member of the SELHS family for nearly 22 years, where her joyous and generous spirit will be missed. She died January 19, 2012 at the age of 52.



Family First Receives PA Medical Society Grant



The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) awards one $5,000 grant each year to a community organization that is working to promote healthy living in an ethnic community. PAMED awarded this year's grant to Adams County Medical Society in collaboration with Family First Health .


Hamilton Health Center Unveils New Newsletter!


Harrisburg-based Hamilton Health Center has unveiled a new newsletter designed to keep its patients, partners and employees informed on health center happenings. The newsletter uses the health center's new logo and will be a critical communication vehicle as the health center prepares for the move to its $20 million, 77,000 square foot new home this fall. Want to keep informed about Hamilton's progress? Register to be added to the newsletter distribution list and visit Hamilton's new website as well.

Efforts Underway to Establish Health Center in Schuylkill County


The Republican Herald reports that Ed Michael, CEO of Rural Health Corporation of Northeastern PA , spoke to a room of about 25 people working to develop a health center for Schuylkill County. The effort, spearheaded by Schuylkill County VISION, includes representatives from different health organizations in the county, the Department of Health and others. Mr. Michael was invited to present to share his experience with and knowledge on FQHCs.
